The FIBO vocabulary and ontologies provide a great structure in which to model and understand financial data - but getting started with these concepts for users who are not familiar with RDF and ontologies can be a challenge. data.world is a data management platform that is based on RDF and semantic web technologies, but with a suite of tools that helps more mainstream data workers make use of those technologies without the steep learning curve. By publishing the FIBO assets into the data.world platform, the EDM Council has opened FIBO up to a broader audience of potential users, and in this talk, we will demonstrate how anyone interested in learning how to apply FIBO to their own data work can get started in minutes on data.world. We will cover:
- What FIBO content is available through data.world
- How you can make use of that content through the data.world platform
- Examples of linking data in spreadsheets to the FIBO vocabulary
- Examples of using those linkages to connect to the FIBO ontologies

Dean Allemang is the author of the leading textbook on Semantic Technologies ("Semantic Web for the Working Ontologist"). Dean has trained over 1,000 professionals on the application and deployment of Semantic Web technology. He is an experienced Data Management consultant and trainer in Semantic Technologies, and sits on the design committees of several major international standards bodies.
Dean currently directs Working Ontologist, LLC, a consultancy that specializes in the development and deployment of semantic web solutions. His current industry focus is in finance, media, agriculture, and life sciences.
