Level:  Business / Non-Technical

Our goal is to answer basic business analytics and reporting user questions, including:

  • What data is available to use?
  • Where can I find it?
  • Can I trust it and what is its level of data quality?
  • How is the data classified for security?

Enterprise metadata repository use cases have been defined and piloted at HCSC, as part of information governance foundation initiatives combined with reporting solution delivery projects. This presentation discusses how the enterprise metadata repository is leveraged through the phased implementation of use cases, to answer questions about the data that are asked by the business community. Hear how use cases are used to establish repository information asset details for:

  • Business glossary and data elements, followed by linking these together to associate common business vocabulary with physical data representations
  • Policies and rules that represent the information governance framework
  • Data profiling and quality rules execution, for data quality monitoring
  • Data tagging for security and retention controls
  • Technical metadata such as data lineage and data store scans, to show where the data came from and to inform on where it is today
